Interlaken – more things to do

Yes, Interlaken is famous for its mountains and lakes, but there is more to do. Here’s a quick collection of things you can do with or without kids.

Ballenberg Swiss Outdoor Museum

This is ideal for kids and adults alike. Learn more about the history while strolling past original houses from different areas of Switzerland that were moved to this outdoor museum.

There are lots of interactive activities for kids of different ages. I can also recommend the food in the restaurant there, it was delicious.

Beatushöhlen

Perfect “indoor” activity on a hot or rainy day: explore the Beatus Caves with or without kids and learn about their geography and history while marvelling at their beauty.

Oberland Shopping

I know, you’re probably not in Switzerland to go to a mall. But sometimes the weather can be horrendous and there seems nothing else to do or you need something and most shops are closed for the weekend. In this case it can help to know one of the very few shopping places in Switzerland that are open on a Sunday.

Rugenbräu brewery visit

Rugenbräu is the local beer brand, but they produce also wine and whiskey. If you’re interested in looking behind the scenes, book a tour and enjoy.

JungfrauPark

Another indoor activity for kids is the Jungfraupark in Matten near Interlaken. It is currently open in the afternoons and the entrance fees are relatively okay for Switzerland.

Aare Gorge

The Aare is the longest river that has its beginning and end in Switzerland. It wiggles its way from the Bernese Alps to the river Rhein at the German border.

Not far from Interlaken it has formed an impressive gorge which is definitely worth a visit for young and old. It’s a good option to escape the heat of a a summer day. In the evening, you can enjoy the mystic atmosphere created by clever lightning.

These are just a few of the countless activities that the Interlaken region offers. Please check out what else is there to make the most of your stay. 😊
