Interlaken – the lakes

The name “Interlaken” means “between lakes”, and it does what it says on the tin. The location between Lake Brienz and Lake Thun offers lots of options to spend your time on or by the water. Whether you try a kayak tour (e. g. via mountain surf or high tide) or prefer a more leisurely time on one of the boats, you can enjoy the water and the mountains simultaneously, even on a rainy day. What else could one ask for, right? Oh yes, of course: food and drink! You find the current offers here

Summers can be pretty hot in this area; it is not unusual for the temperatures to rise above 30°C. That’s the perfect opportunity for a refreshing dip in the water. But be warned: both lakes are pretty cool even in the hottest summer; Lake Brienz is usually a bit cooler than its neighbour. This is because it is fed by glacier water and the river Aare, which then continues through Lake Thun and further through Switzerland. The sediments from the glacier water are also responsible for the surreal turquoise colour of the lake. In Böningen you can choose between a dip in the lake or a heated pool. Whichever you choose, you can enjoy the fantastic views.

If cycling is your thing, why not circle Lake Thun on the Lake Thun Loop? Depending on your fitness or the power of your E-Bike, it takes 4h30 or longer.
