Summers can be pretty hot in this area; it is not unusual for the temperatures to rise above 30°C. That’s the perfect opportunity for a refreshing dip in the water. But be warned: both lakes are pretty cool even in the hottest summer; Lake Brienz is usually a bit cooler than its neighbour. This is because it is fed by glacier water and the river Aare, which then continues through Lake Thun and further through Switzerland. The sediments from the glacier water are also responsible for the surreal turquoise colour of the lake. In Böningen you can choose between a dip in the lake or a heated pool. Whichever you choose, you can enjoy the fantastic views.
